BFA Introduces the First-Ever “Metaverse Design” Category

“To honour the future of fashion.”

In conjunction with this year’s annual Fashion Awards, the British Fashion Council keeps pace with the virtual nature of 2021 with the introduction of “Metaverse Design” - A new fashion award created exclusively with Roblox.

WHAT IS ROBLOX?

For those not familiar with Roblox, it is an online platform and storefront where users go to play games. Roblox is not a game, it is a place where people play games made by other developers. In this sense, it is more similar to PC platform Steam than it is to any online children’s game.

What makes Roblox different from anything else in the games industry — including a storefront like Steam — is that all the games are made by its users. On Roblox, the fun doesn’t just come from playing games, it also comes from making games. These games are not formally developed by Roblox Corporation, but by users of the platform. Currently, the official website boasts that its users have published over 20 million games on the platform.

The Metaverse Design category was introduced to The Fashion Awards to honour digital fashion designers that push the boundaries within the metaverse space. This time around, the first Metaverse Design award was given to cSapphire, a digital fashion creative who’s well-celebrated for their looks on Roblox.

With Gucci dedicating a digital capsule collection exclusively available for purchase in The Fashion Awards experience on Roblox, there’s no one more fitting than Creative Director Alessandro Michele to present the award… Making his appearance as an avatar to represent the future of fashion moving forward.

No doubt, the virtual event is an immersive experience of gaming and fashion. Players get to instantly transport themselves (virtually) into the iconic event with a chance to explore nominees’ displays, watch Award video footage and even virtually strut up the red carpet with friends from the Roblox community.

The Fashion Awards immersive experience on Roblox is now available until 7th December on the Roblox game.
